Spent a bit of time getting that all sorted out, but eventually things were running smoothly. It's nice to be able to use 10m effectively in a contest! We'll be missing that in a few years. | N3VLF | SO LP 10M | Operator age 23 Operator is 23 years old (birthday 11/03/2002) This is my first contest in several years and the first contest with my new call (previously, I was KM4SII). I do not have a permanent station at this time, so this was a semi-portable operation from on campus at Auburn University here in Alabama. The antenna was a 10m dipole up about 20 feet on a telescoping painters pole I bought from Home Depot. The antenna was set up outside of my office window between two buildings, so I am sure that hurt performance, but I still could work most of what I could hear. I had high hopes for 10m, but unfortunately the SFI and sunspot number has been falling all week leading up to the contest making conditions rather lackluster. My first QSO was with HK1T at 1230z and the first EU (EI7M) made it in the log at 1309z. Although most of EU was workable to some degree, most stations were not particularly strong. While I could work most everyone I could hear, no EU RBN nodes were hearing me indicating a fairly weak opening. The band closed to EU around 17z and I spent the rest of the afternoon periodically checking the band and picking off the usual South America, West Coast, and KL7/KH6 stations. It was nice to work some semi-uncommon DX -- 8R1TM and ZD7BG. The only Oceanic station I heard aside from the KH6s was ZL60PAH who I was able to work in short order. A JA opening did not really materialize. I could faintly copy JM7OLW, but that was it. Given the unfavorable conditions and the fact that I slept rather poorly before the contest, I do not feel motivated to come back to campus in the morning and set up the temporary antenna again. Still, it was good to get back on the air after an extended QRT! Hopefully I can eventually get a more permeant station set up down here. Thanks for the Qs! 73 Mason - N3VLF (ex KM4SII) |

| N9TF | SO LP ALL | I set a goal to top my best score from 2024, but ran out of new mults to work by Sunday morning and had a hard stop by 17:30utc Sunday morning. 10m was no help Sunday morning for needed EU prefix mults, and I had a lot more 1 pointers on the high bands and 2 pointers on the low bands and lower 3 and 6 pointers compared to 2024. I did work a couple new DXC for RTTY, so there's a win! 90% S&P, 10% struggling to get runs going and not getting knocked off my freq. Managed about 60 Qs with short sprints here and there when I'd find a hole between stations. 40 and 80 were noisy here Saturday night with the approaching rain storm. | ND2T | MSH | NCCC wanted to make a club effort and the rotators were just repaired, so it was time for a contest! Only three ops available, and a late start Friday, but we eventually put in 27 hours of operating, and still met our other obligations for the weekend. We were all remote from the mountaintop, and we each had two or three problems with the remote desktop or logging program. So now our hardware works, but the software is acting up. We just operated one operator at a time, with cluster spots, and no extra 2nd ops or spotting radios. High antennas and high power allowed us to work far DX each day, working Europeans, Japan, Indonesia, ... all in the log! We worked 72 DXCC total, but QSOs were highly USA, Japan and Canada. 15m band was the star, but 10m showed up and was no slouch. Rate varied a lot, with hourly rates from 70 down to 15 probably depending on the hourly conditions, band and if we were running or S&P. Whatever the rate, we had fun and switched ops enough to stay alert. A good contest outing, thank you for the contacts! | NR4M | SO HP ALL | With few operators at hand, some remnants of headaches from the ice storm, and scheduling messes from Valentine's Day and life in general... I fell into a good spot. NR4M graciously offered up the full services of the Goat Farm station for me to make an attempt at a decent single-op effort. Given that the station is laid out and equipment positioned for multi-multi operations, it didn't lend itself to last-minute or temporary SO2R fixes the solution was the Classic overlay. I think that not having spotted QSO's and mults constantly streaming past my eyes helped with keeping my hand off the VFO and focus on running, running, running. Strong start on 40, a wise move to pick up some stations on 20, followed by a poor decision to stay on 20 too late. 80 wasn't bad, and went back to 40 before packing in for the night. Came back a few hours later, hopped on 15, and squeezed it until it felt like there was nothing left. Then, the seemingly logical advancement to 20, 40, 80, and back to 40 until the clock ran out. Never even made it to 10, but with the rate on 15 the way it was, I didn't want to think of moving. NR4M told me coming into this that 40 would be the money band, and he was 100% on that. Enormous thanks to everybody in the contest for all the Q's an unimaginably huge thanks to Steve for hosting, allowing me this opportunity and the thrill to operate (and the trust to not break anything) and all the Goat Farm ... associate farmers?
