My QTH is Chisago Township North, 30 miles NW of Minneapolis, Minnesota. This was a part-time effort, small blocks of time here and there across the weekend. I had not set any specific goal(s) but rather just to get on and enjoy the event. Highlight of my contacts was receiving 'PSE CPY' ahead of the serial number being sent! The low- light of the contest was my fat-fingering keys and making a lot of mistakes. I am not proud of my abysmal operator performance in this contest. All of my equipment and software worked without any major issues. My TS-990s was rebooted once to resolve an elusive secondary display freeze-up issue that crops up occasionally. A reboot takes care of that anomaly until sometime later in the year when I will have to reboot it again. And to add insult to injury, I submitted my WPX log to the CQWW RTTY contest checker and got a ton of errors, which of course surprised me! Maybe I should take up golf ??? 73 de Bob - KØRC in MN |

| K1DC | SO LP ALL | My opening line from last year?s soap box was 'Its fun to be loud!'. This year, the headline is ?It?s frustrating to be weak!? In December I experienced the 'Revenge of the Christmas Trees' when a large oak fell in our yard. It directly destroyed a few VHF antennas on it?s way to crush the steps to our deck, some railings and crack two skylights. The biggest impact to HF contesting was the loss of the mounting point for two of my wire antennas a 40M EFHW & a 10-20M fan dipole. I was able to re-mount the EFHW to another tree but only at about 15ft - certainly not ideal. My other surviving HF antenna is a very low, but full size 80M dipole. My expectations were rather low. I felt participation was good, with decent conditions on Fri. night through Saturday. Conditions on Sunday were not as good with many EU signals showing a 'flutter' I usually only hear on over-the-pole stations and all stations generally weaker. 10M was a dead zone on Sunday. I did manage to put over 700 Qs in the log but it was a long, tough slog. When I did try running I would only get a handful of Qs, if any at all. I did take advantage of the SO2R capabilities of my Flex 6600 when band conditions allowed by calling a station on one side while searching the for next one on the other. It often required several calls and a few repeats to finish a Q. Many times I could clearly read a station but they could not hear me. heavy sigh Honestly, I don't know how the QRP folks manage it! One bright spot for me was a strong showing on 80M. I think this is the first 'test where 80M has made a significant contribution to my score. There were many stations active on 80 which is a refreshing change for me. Perhaps they were attracted by the point bonus available on the low bands - I sure was. I also appreciated the 30hr limit for SO stations. This allowed me to have some family time and get some decent rest through the weekend. I would support this rule for all SO classes in all contests. 48 straight hours of competition is on the raw edge of human endurance for the young and beyond that for those of us with more expansive 'life experience' - it is certainly far beyond mine! One particularly frustrating pileup occurred on JT5DX, which would have been a RTTY ATNO for me. I could read him well but I could not cut through the surrounding bedlam. By this point I knew that I was not going to place well so I spent an inordinate amount of time trying to get the ATNO - No Joy. 5 band contacts with EI7M, IO6T, P49X, SN7Q, SP8R and WP3C. 4 band contacts were made with 9A1A, AC0C, DA0BCC, DP6A, K9CT, LX7I, N4IQ, N5QP, NM4AA, OM5ZW, PJ2T, W0ZQ, WV4P and ZF2SS. Despite the frustration and lack-luster performance I still enjoyed the event. Many thanks to the folks that keep the CQ contests running and of course, to all the ops for the patience to complete a Q with my moldy potato station! 73 and see you in NAQP/RTTY in a few weeks! | K3CCR | M2 | K3CCR is the club station at the Collington continuing-care retirement community at FM 18OW in MD, just east of DC. N3UM and W5MPB did Multi-2 in 2026 CQ WPX RTTY. We hoped to beat our 2025 result of 3889 QSO points and 721 WPX mults for a 2.80 M claim. Nope we got 0.98 X the QSO points & 0.91 X the mults for 0.90 X our 2025 claim. Low SFI & high Kp this year cost us 62 mults vs 2025. But, hourly cum-Q values were 2025 till near the end. This margin was 100 for 9 hrs 18Z Sat.-02Z Sun. incl, with Kp of 4+ & then 5+. Then in the last few hrs Sun, a major nearby power-grid fault gave us many 1-2 sec dropouts and a few of 10+ sec, so ham gear and software had to be reset & re-booted. No way to catch up |
